Bandol region - Château Salettes

Château Salettes is situated in border of the Mediterranean Sea between Toulon and Marseille at the foot of The Cadière d' Azur, the small Provençal village. At present, the vineyard extends all in one piece there restanques in the middle of pines and olive trees, in front of the sea. Its argilo-calcareous and rocky grounds, his microclimate make Salettes a unique ground and one of the most beautiful domains of the AOC BANDOL.

The grapes varieties are:

50% Mourvèdre 19% Grenache noir, 23% Cinsault 6%,1% Clairette pointue 1% Vermentino,1 % Carignan et Syrah

Since 1604, eighteen generations of the same family (Ricard de La Gaillardière) followed one another to cultivate this ground sometimes in the appearance or in the pickaxe for plantations on this stony soil. In the course of the generations, the former transmitted us the secrets of an ancestral method as well as love of the vineyard and the wine. In 1965, Jean Pierre Boyer takes back the management of the domain with his father-in-law Léon Ricard: construction of a new cellar of wine making in the 1980s, replantings on the given up restanques, the clearing for new plantations on this magnificent argilo-calcareous soil constituted by these typical flat stones called "Lecques". In 2002, Nicolas Boyer takes back the family exploitation, succeeding his grandfather and its father Jean-Pierre.

He brings with him a big will of modernity also by transplanting of old restanques and pursuing the work of his father. Modernity and family tradition are the key words of the Castle Salettes. Suites of a grave disease, Nicolas leaves us in April, 2011. Jean Pierre Boyer takes back the management of the domain with the arrival of a new director Alexandre Le Corguillé, engineer oenologist. Some plots of land again are to be transplanted and investments are going to be begun in the cellar and the bottling.
